A twist of fate

About 4 days ago my lovely little Chips puppy was adopted by a lovely family in Sutton.

They were taking him for his walk today and passed some rubbish in a field. Normally they walk straight past all of it, but the husband felt compelled to go and check it out. It amongst all the trash he found a shoebox. When he opened the box, what should look back at him, but a couple of pet rats!

Because they had come round to adopt Chips from my home address they were aware that I kept smaller caged animals and gave me a call. Obviously I asked them to drop them over straight away. What nobody had realised is that along with the two rats were six beautiful baby rats of about 2-3 weeks old who the mum had carefully hidden under the bedding to protect them from all the confusion.

The whole group are now in my birthing cage and have nested and mummy is happily feeding all six babies. The other rat is also a female so she can stay in there with them and give mum a hand!

Talk about luck! If they hadn't adopted the pup then they wouldn't have gone on the walk. If they hadn't adopted from here they wouldn't have known where to send them. If the husband hadn't randomly checked out the rubbish (what made him do that I don't know!) then they would still be sitting there in a box. Very shortly after the family found these babies the haevens opened and the flimsy box would quickly have become mush.

Lucky rats all round really!

Emma
